Persecution of religious minorities

In July 1999, Rep. Waxman cosponsored H.Con.Res. 128, a resolution expressing the sense of the Congress regarding the treatment of religious minorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and particularly the recent arrests of members of the Iranian Jewish community.

Persecution of Iranian Jews

In May 2000, Rep. Waxman wrote a letter urging World Bank President James Wolfensohn to delay consideration of new loans for Iran until the government would release 13 Iranian Jews wrongfully arrested and accused of spying.

Satellite broadcasts
On July 23, 2003, Rep. Waxman sent a letter to Secretary of State Colin Powell calling for immediate action to restore U.S. satellite broadcasts to Iran that are reportedly being jammed from Cuba.
